CFCC Week 9: Three Onside Kicks and 2 Field Goals

By: Sugar (2026-11-01)

I'm having a hard time remembering a college football season with so much parity. As Boda wrote in last week's summary, a team has a big win one week. Everyone jumps on board, and then every dawg's new favorite promptly soils the bed. Maybe wets it too. Maybe it's NIL. Maybe it's just one of those years.ย

This week's victim was The Ohio State University, which traveled to LA, without it's #1 QB (maybe should have been a concern) and promptly got dismantled by USC. USC and Lincoln Riley had a rough week going in with many thinking Lincoln's career was headed toward college football's Ford Theater. Not yet, anyway! 89% of the dawg park had Ohio State with an average consensus of 7.5. Overall, 2423 points got flushed by the trojan clinic. Forty dawgs were savvy enough to pick that game correctly and 12 got Top Dawg Pick badges for their efforts.ย

And two other powerhouses came close to calling in the sheet changers. Let's start with dirty-dawg .com #1 Miami. I polled the dirty-dawg directors Saturday morning asking if "anyone was concerned about North Carolina". I was given very loud 'nos'. Miami ultimately prevailed, but it took two NC penalties on two Tar Heel recovered onside kicks to keep Miami out of trouble. And of course, the third time was a charm for Miami and they survived. Moving on down to #4 Indiana. I don't know about all of you, but when Minnesota kicked a 60 yard field goal to take the lead with 19 seconds, I thought it was all over. Not so fast! One big pass play and another 60 yard field goal and we were in OT, which of course The Hoosiers won. I wonder how many dawgs shut that game off before it was over? Indiana had 207 dawgs with a 15 riding on them! That makes for a very high pucker factor!!

After some laughable weeks, the dirty-dawg field finally turned in a noteworthy average score notching 82.1 points for Week 9. Dale Parra, however, ran the table going 15-0, nailing the 3 big upsets of South Carolina, Clemson and USC. Remember when losing to Clemson didn't get coaches fired?? Anyhow, Dale, congratulations on a great week! Five other players went 14-1 for Week 9 with Will Perry (Oklahoma) and Marty Mullen (Wisconsin) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively with 116 and 112 points. Fine week, dawgs!

The overall leaderboard has flipped once again and now Dale Parra leads after his perfect week. Dale has a 22 point lead over Will Perry, who was up 24 spots and a 28 point lead over Rob Hart and last week's overall leader, Greg Story. Dale was the overall leader after Weeks 6 and 7 as well after loitering in 197th place after Week 2. As we head into the CFCC homestretch in November, it will be interesting to see if Dale can maintain his double-digit lead prior the the CFP Blowout!

Looking at the Group Play competition, it's Hillers Thrillers back in command after a one-week hiatus. Hillers Thrillers is led by none other than overall leader Dale Parra. Funny how that works. It looks like this 6-person group has 3 bones between them, so they have definitely come to play in 2026. Close behind is multiple group champion Florida Dummies Legacy, just 3.76 points off the mark and BoomerBacks, who always mean business. ReLaXers had the best group score for Week 9 with a red hot 93.33. The OraCLEs finished 2nd with 92 points and Hillers came in with 91.33.

Best call of Week 9 belongs to Jimmer Whimmer, who just walked in the door this week and promptly dropped 15 on USC. Welcome aboard, Jimmer. Nice work. Then he turned around and put 11 on Army, which landed him on the short list for worst Dawg Pile Pick of the week. Less nice work, Jimmer. Rookie year is a journey. Week 9 left us with 28 piles of doggy doo doo scattered across the field. The biggest one? That would be Dan Dixon and his 14 on Arkansas.ย  Bring a shovel, Dan.

The CFP Committee drops its first 2026 standings Tuesday evening, which means the arguing season officially opens. If you've got a vote in the dirty-dawg Top 12, use it. Don't make us come find you. We'll line our list up against the Committee's next week and see who looks smarter.ย

Meanwhile, the first Saturday in November never disappoints, and Week 10 is stacked like always. We're still sorting through the matchups and the game form should be ready to roll on Monday. Good luck in Week 10, and thanks for playing dirty-dawg.com.
