CFCC Week 7 Wrap-up: CHAOS at the Top of College Football!

By: Shudda, Cudda, Wudda (2026-10-19)

It was a crazy, topsy-turvy Saturday as a record five of the Top 7 AP teams were upset on Saturday, with #1 Georgia (by Auburn 27-24), #2 Notre Dame (by BYU 28-24) , #5 Indiana (by Ohio State 19-15), #6 Alabama (by Tennessee 26-10), and #7 Texas (by Florida 27-24) all going down.  Also, #3 Miami came within a whisker of joining this group, having to go to 2OT to get their win over FSU.  A very, very entertaining day indeed.  And “You’re Welcome!” for not including the 20-point-dog Auburn upset over Georgia in our 15 Game Menu.  Kiss those 14 or 15 points you would have spent on that game!

In the pics below are three of our bigger games from Saturday–1) Alabama at Tennessee (unofficially the Cigar Bowl), three weeks after President Trump visited Neyland Stadium for Texas at Tennessee, Dept of War Secretary Pete Hegseth visits Neyland for the Alabama game on Saturday sporting Vol colors and a cigar; 2) Ohio State brings Indiana down to Earth, beating the Hoosiers in Bloomington, then 3) BYU, after hosting ESPN College Game Day, upsets Notre Dame Saturday evening in Provo.

After the dust settled Saturday night, Miami’s OT victory moved them into AP #1 with BYU now at #2 (yes, BYU!).  For us old folks, this brings up memories of 1984 when BYU actually won the National Championship with Robbie Bosco as QB (pre-playoffs era).

For the rest of our games, there were very  few upsets–only 5 upsets in our 15 games, but unfortunately many of us missed 3 or 4 of our double-digit Confidence Picks, losing a lot of points in the process.  The average score was another low one, this week 22.7 points.

In our CFCC Overall Standings, Dale Parra, Clackamas, OR continues his 2nd Week as the leader, with Greg Story, Fort Worth, TX, surging up 9 slots to #2, and Jacob Ventimiglia, New Baltimore, MI, holding steady at #3.

For the Weekly Leaders, fictitious player Homer Simpson (automatic Home Team picks with 1-15 used, top-to-bottom) led the way at 72, with 11 of the Home Teams winning.  For the real players, Scott Carpenter, Salt Lake City, UT and River Rat, Shreveport, LA led the way with 64 points each and Jeff Graschel, Slidell, LA was close behind at 62.  Scott got a lot of points with his 9 on North Carolina in their upset over rival Duke, and River Rat had Top Dawg Picks of Florida over Texas, Kentucky over Oklahoma, and BYU over Notre Dame.  Jeff made the bold Tennessee-over-Alabama pick, with a 7 on Tennessee.

With the crazy games, you might think there would be a shake-up in our Group Play, but no, status quo here, with Hillers Thrillers still #1, BoomerBacks #2, and High Plains Drifters #3.

For Week 8, we don’t have as many ranked-versus-ranked matchups, but we that doesn’t mean it will be any easier–we still have to place all our 1-15 Confidence Factors–seems like by the time I get to Confidence #12 I’m already feeling discomfort most weeks!

Last little nugget for grins…

Okay, I can’t help but chuckle when I see certain camera angles of Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian that remind me of Pee Wee Herman.  Anyone else (probably only age 45+) who has noted this pattern recognition?  Maybe it’s the haircut.  And watching Jon Sumrall, Florida HC, in the Texas-UF game on Saturday–might want to redirect your Pee Wee hair trend as well, Coach.  Pee Wee, not exactly the embodiment of masculinity and intimidation.  Although Pee Wee was self-admittedly a pretty cool dude.

Good luck in Week 8 !!!
