Trust the Toddler: Red River Wrecks the Locks

Last week we stated that the Red River Rivalry respects the point spread like a toddler respects a nap schedule. An obvious sign should have been the fact that, despite Texas ranked #1, and OU unable to score points, the point spread was less than double-digits in favor of Texas. Still, 97% of the CFCC field had the Longhorns with an average confidence of 11.3. And 100% of the Top 25 and Top 10 players going into Week 6 were with Texas. Well, that confidence overall cost the field 3966 points! Twenty-four dawgs called it right though, all earning a Top Dawg Pick badge with Robert Banks and Josh Boustead the most confident playing their 13s. Way to go, dawgs! What else did we learn from that game? It's pretty clear to me that neither Arch Manning nor John Mateer are good enough QBs to win a National Championship despite both team's stellar defenses.

And the Red River Rivalry, with a 230 PM CDT kick-off, was just the middle of what turned out to be the 7th worst week of all-time in CFCC history with an average player score of -5. That's a minus sign in front of the 5. And even though it was painful, it was no where close to the all-time worst average score of -27.7 from Week 5 in 2008. So, cheer up, it's football!! Thankfully, Boise State came through for the field with the late game (wrapping up around 115 AM CDT, Sunday!) to prevent even bigger Sunday morning hangovers.

As is always the case, though, even when the average score is -5 there are always dawgs that come through strong. This week it was none other than dirty-dawg veteran Trevor Boucher, from Salt Lake City, UT. Trevor went 10-5 and is the Week 6 champion with 66 points. He had 3 Top Dawg Picks: UCLA, Oklahoma and Kentucky. And of course it's Trevor who hands us the podium quote of the season: "Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't. She didn't go. That's the way she goes." If that one sailed right over your head, you're either north of 50 or you're a woman. Either way, somebody at the table can explain it to you. His only double-digit miss was 10 on North Dakota State. River Rat, from Shreveport, LA was the Week 6 runner-up with 58 points and Olin Mann from lovely Linden, MI finished 3rd with 56 points. Great job on a challenging week, dawgs!

We had another lead change for Week 6 as another dirty-dawg vet, Dale Parra from Clackamas, OR was up 5 spots to the top of the leader board after a 40 point week. Dale has a 28 point lead over another dd vet, Ken Drozd from Tucson, AZ and a 38 point advantage over yet another in Jacob Ventimiglia from New Baltimore, MI.Β

Group play is still Hillers Thrillers' world, sitting on a 396.33 average β€” but they gave a little back with a Week 6 average of -4. Leave the door cracked and somebody walks in. Two old CFCC

warhorses are right there. BoomerBacks picked up a point and sit 1.08 back. High Plains Drifters added a half point and trail by 8.33. That's a nothing lead with plenty of fall left. Best group week belonged to Delta Tango XRay, up 23.20 points, riding the aforementioned Olin Mann along with Dick Wagenmaker. That's how you make up ground in a hurry.

Our own dirty-dawg Top 12 poll launched this year, and let's be honest, turnout has been light. The eligible field has not exactly been beating down the door. But the handful who did bother to vote? They had Georgia at #1 while the big-boy polls were busy crowning Texas. Right now that looks like the better call. That's the whole reason we started this thing. We figured dirty-dawgers knew better than the talking heads. So far, so good. So vote when the invite hits your inbox. And remember, you only get one if you're Top 10% overall or Top 10% for the week. Don't waste it.

Week 7 is on deck, which marks the half-way point of CFCC 2026! Will Dale Parra open his lead, or will another dirty-dawger turn in a stellar week and take command? There are some great matchups for Week 7 so make sure to get those picks in prior to the usual 11 AM CDT deadline.Β
