CFCC Week 5 Wrap: Four Dawgs Perfect, Kruse Leads

By: Sugar (2026-10-04)

Well, that's more like it. After Week 4 left half the field looking like they'd filled out their picks with a dartboard and a blindfold, the CFCC crowd stared down a Week 5 slate that had upset written all over it β€” and promptly posted an average score of 90.9. Fifteen games, three legitimate landmines, and four dawgs came out the other side without a scratch.

Four Perfect Dawgs, One Humble Champion

Herman Rice of Johnson City, TN, Dale Ganus of Lubbock, TX, Nicki Clark of Morgantown, WV and Mack Morris of New Braunfels, TX all went 15-0 for a perfect 120 points and a share of the Week 5 crown.Β

To get there, all four had to call Missouri over Florida when 92% of the field was riding the Gators. They had to take NC State over Louisville with 86% of the room on the other side. And they had to put Florida State past Virginia in the one game the field genuinely couldn't agree on β€” 57/43, which in dirty-dawg terms is a coin flip with a cover charge.

Mack Morris is the only winner so far this week to step to the podium with a line this modest:

Just doing my best.

Well, Mack, that's all we can ask of you. Though if "your best" is a perfect card on a week with three upsets, maybe aim a little higher next time and see what happens.

Another twelve dawgs posted 14-1 records, which on most weeks is a trophy and on this week is a participation ribbon. Welcome to Week 5.

The Games That Did the Damage

Missouri over Florida was the wrecking ball. Ninety-two percent of the field on the Gators, and a whole lot of those picks came with big confidence numbers attached. That's not a scratch, that's a hole in the hull.

NC State over Louisville was the second body blow β€” 86% on the Cardinals. Then Florida State handled Virginia to finish off anybody still standing.

Elsewhere, the chalk mostly behaved itself. Notre Dame took care of North Carolina with 99% of the field aboard. Houston beat UCF, also at 99%. James Madison handled Marshall at 99%. Ohio State over Iowa at 96%, Tennessee over Auburn at 95%, USC over Washington at 97%, Miami over Clemson at 97%, Texas Tech over Colorado at 98%. If you missed any of those, we'd love to hear the reasoning.

Air Force over Navy was the sneaky one. Only 22% of the field had Navy, so the pick itself wasn't the issue β€” but a lot of the Top Dawg Picks this week came from dawgs who stacked serious points on the Falcons and let them ride.

Alabama's beatdown of Mississippi State (85% Tide) and Arizona over Cincinnati (89% Wildcats) both went according to plan, as did Oregon State over Colorado State at 89%.

And a special tip of the cap to whichever Colorado coach or player left the Buffs' offensive playbook sitting on a barstool.Β  Somewhere out there a bartender knows the third-down package better than the guys who are supposed to run it.

Top of the Board

Christine Kruse of Salt Lake City, UT is your new overall leader at 436 points on a 59-16 record, jumping nine spots from Week 4. Michael Bowlan held the top spot a week ago and now sits second at 432, four points back β€” and his 62-13 mark is the best win total in the field, which has to sting a little. Rick Miner, the 2021 champ, is also at 432 on 59-16 and sits third.

Chris McKinney is right there too at 432 (57-18), with Anthony Cavallucci at 428 (59-16) and Dale Parra at 426 (58-17) rounding out the top of the leaderboard. Four points separating second through fourth. This is going to be a long fall for somebody.

Movers and Casualties

Dale Ganus didn't just win the week, he rocketed 102 spots from 225 to 123. Herman Rice jumped 72 from 101 all the way to 29 β€” perfect weeks will do that. Alex Erwin climbed 73 to 161 and Chris Darden moved up 72 to 105.

Now the carnage. Brady Hamill dropped 167 spots, from 89 to 256. That's not a bad week, that's a bad week that found your address. Jared Mckinney fell 157 from 150 to 307. Carter Greulich tumbled 136 from 121 to 257, and Robert Ricks matched him with a 136-spot slide from 74 to 210.

Four guys, all presumably with Florida sitting high on the card. Somewhere in there is a lesson about the SEC in early October.

Group Play Gets Tight

Hiller's Thriller is still in first, but they should probably check the rearview. BoomerBacks sit second, BuckNutz third and Florida Dummies Legacy fourth β€” and all three are within 10 points of the lead. These are not new names around here. They know where the bodies are buried.

Week 6: The Halfway Pole

Hard to believe we're already at the midpoint of the regular season. Week 6 brings the Texas/OU game in Dallas, which historically has about as much respect for the betting market as a toddler has for a nap schedule.

Georgia goes to Alabama, and after The Tide's dismantling of Mississippi State the favorite has flipped. Expect the field to be split right down the middle on that one, which means it'll be worth a lot of points to whoever guesses right.

And Nebraska at Indiana gives us two undefeated Big Ten teams, with the Hoosiers defending a title. Put some thought into that one before you bury it at 3 points.

Get your picks in. Mack is just doing his best, and apparently that's enough to beat all of you.
