CFCC: Week 5
by: exRegionalWeenie (9/29/25)
It kills me to admit it, but Penn State just cannot get it done against top opponents. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they won their first-ever NCAA College Football Playoff game last year by crushing SMU. And yes, I know they rolled over then-No. 3 Boise State in the semifinals, but that was just
Boise State, right? Then with the whole college football world watching the first-ever College Football Playoff semifinal, Coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions just could get the job done against Notre Dame.
Now, flash forward to last week. It's a new year and a new chance for highly ranked PSU to be the real deal. The table was perfectly set as PSU held a whiteout at home against No. 6 Oregon. Sure enough, Franklin and the Lions came up short. Again. In fact, it was
really short for part of the fourth quarter but then PSU forced the game into OT and then double OT before they came up short once again. Oh well, maybe someday, just not
this day.
That's enough about real football. You came here to see your name mentioned by the famous Dirty Dawg writers, right? Well here ya go:
Week 5 CFCC Top Dawgs
Congrats to Week 5 CFCC winner
Ian McNeil! He correctly called the mini-upsets by Oregon and Alabama plus 11 other games enroute to a 108-point week and 13-2 record. Nice work, Ian! We also want to give shoutouts to
Peyton Gillespie and
Mike Zwier for tying for 2nd place in Week 5 at 100 points each. Mike earned a bronze bone in '15 and a silver bone in '20. If that pattern holds, mark him down for a gold in '25! Next we have
Benjamin Schott and
Philip McCarthy in a tie for 4th place although Ben gets the edge because he won 12 games to Phillip's 11.
Four players were tied for 6th place in Week 5. They were (and still are)
Harold Dippman, Brandon Black, Robert Nystrom and
Carl Lindecrantz, each with a strong 96 points. And surprise, we had yet another tie, this time a four way tie for 10th place between
Mike Coyne, Nicolas Porcelli, Brian Heath and
Todd Lericos. Hmmm, Mike and Todd, a couple leaders from the DFW area. I think we need some transparency of what those two are up to (IYKYK). Just kidding, guys, just kidding!
Year-to-date CFCC Standings after Week 5
Jeremy Buckles didn't win Week 5 but he said, "Who cares? I'm still in 1st place." Indeed his is. In fact, Jeremy added 10 points to his grip on 1st place by beating 2nd place's
Derrick Snyder in Week 5 by - you guessed it - 10 points. Lericos rode his Week 5 success to vault 20 places in the standings and tie Derrick for 2nd place.
Tom Fannin had a strong week and moved from 10th place into 4th. Speaking of upward moves, check out McNeil's move. His Week 5 victory propelled him an incredible 119 places all the way up to 5th place. Now
that's getting the job done!
The rest of the year-to-date Top 10 consists entirely of dirty-dawg veterans including 2006 winner
Derek Eisentrout along with
Jason B. Wright, Brian Hoeth, Tyler Castillo and
Eric Holweg.
Florida Dummies Ascend to the top of the PFCC Group Play Standings
I hope you read last week's article and learned about the touching story behind
The Florida Dummies - Legacy. Fittingly, they rose into 1st place in the latest group standings. Good luck, folks - we hope you stay in 1st the rest of this season! The Dummies dislodged
The Border War Still Lives in KC from 1st place by just 3.60 points.
WEST COAST WALK OFF holds 3rd place in the group standings.

Standings Solidifying After CFCC/PFCC Week 4/3
by: Sugar (September 24, 2025)
A quarter of CFCC 2025 regular season is over, which is hard to believe, but the standings are starting to solidify some, as they tend to do
about this time in the contest. It was another entertaining Saturday for college football that yielded a couple of surprises for dirty-dawgers.
Oklahoma continued to look good and beat a good Auburn team during a competitive contest. Unfortunately, QB John Mateer broke his hand during the
game and will be out at least a month. Indiana absolutely put the hammer down on Illinois suggesting that last season was not a fluke for the
Hoosiers. While the beatdown was surprising to most, dirty-dawg consensus was on Indiana. However, the dirty-dawg consensus was not on Texas Tech,
despite the Red Raiders marching into SLC and dominating the game, which was close through three quarters, before Tech closed the door in the 4th
frame. And the Raiders did it with their, I almost can't believe I'm typing this, defense. Tech has dudes up front and invested heavily in both
lines. An interesting stat through 4 weeks is that the Top 7 ranked teams in the off-season transfer portal are 27-0. Time will tell if these
teams continue to play well of course.
Speaking of playing well, on the overall CFCC leaderboard, we see Mr. Jeremy Buckles continuing to hold the top spot with 290 points on a stellar
record of 46-14. He continues to hold a large lead of 36 points over Paducah, Kentucky's Derrick Snyder, who also remained in 2nd place After
4 weeks. Despite the status quo at the top of the board, we did see some big movers into the Top 10 during Week 4. Brett Williams from Lees
Summit, MO was up 21 spots to number 5. Marshall Willinholly (cool name) from KC was up 54 into 7th place and Todd Hamill from Tyrone, GA leaped
94 spots to number 8 overall. Nice job dawgs! You all (ya'll) might want to keep an eye out for 2022 CFCC Champion Tom Fannin who was up 11 and
into number 10! For Week 4 specifically, the average score was another underwhelming 56 points, but as always several players were much better
than that. Raymond Jojola from Isleta Pueblo, NM was the Week 4 champion with 100 points and 13 wins. Raymond lost, like everyone else, on
Utah and Arkansas. Runner-up was Joe Kunches from Niwot, CO. Joe also had 100 points but he missed 4 games, despite a stellar call with 11 on
Texas Tech. The Border War Still Lives in KC is back on top in Group Play, followed by The Know Nothings and The Florida Dummies - Legacy.
Special note on The Florida Dummies - Legacy is that we would like to send our condolences their way for the loss of the family patriarch and
20+-season dirty-dawger during the off-season. According to their group description, Bill Moseley loved college football, the Crimson Tide, and
dirty-dawg.com! We will miss Bill playing and will be keeping an eye out for a motivated and always tough Florida Dummies team the rest of the
way!
Over on the PFCC side, things are also heating up and the world is starting to get a grip on the haves and have-nots in the NFL. Of course it
is early and we all know how much things can change during long seasons. Just ask Detroit Tiger fans about their 13.5 game lead at the All-Star
break. The biggest surprises of the week were likely Cleveland taking down the Packers as a across-the-board 13 consensus while Detroit went
into Baltimore and hung an L on Lamar Jackson and The Ravens on MNF, with Baltimore carrying a 7 all-member consensus. I personally know many
disappointed (although not surprised) Cowboy fans and at least one disappointed Broncos fan so far. Again, at least some of these teams will
flip by the end of the season.
There is something in the water in New Braunfels, TX, which is the home of both the PFCC leader Matthew Brady as well as 2nd place Nick
Hampshire. Matthew has 253 points on a 36-8 record while Nick was up 39 spots sitting at 245 points and 35 victories. Alaina Macfarlane is
in 3rd place with 237 points and was up 7 positions.
Bryan Greenblatt from Vestal, NY took home the Week 3 PFCC honors with 96 points on 12 wins. Bryan only tripped up on the already mentioned
Packer and Raven bed wetting and also dropped his 1 confidence on Atlanta. Nick Webb was the Week 3 runner-up with 90 points, also on 12
wins. Nick is from Hurricane, WV, which is a real place because we checked. We thought maybe he was just being funny or paying homage to all
of the meteorologists in this contest. Nick actually picked the Browns, but also picked New England, Dallas and Baltimore. And a special
shout-out to Olin Mann of Linden, Michigan for taking third place in Week 3 and easily surpassing his 'Old Mann', who has been playing many
more years than him! Boomerbacks continues at the top of the Group Play standings, with Nittany Squalls hot on their tales.
And here is another reminder that the NFL scheduling gods have decided to screw dirty-dawgers early this season and schedule a game across
the pond for this upcoming weekend. So, you are all facing an early 830 AM CDT deadline on Sunday, so don't screw the pooch!! The CFCC
Week 5 deadline remains the usual 11 AM CDT on Saturday. Good luck this week.
