PFCC Week 10: "Dak's All Folks" - Romo Sings a "Looney Tune"

by: The Cold Hard Truth

I've watched football players stand up and deliver a speech as they entered the Hall of Fame, or after they've played their final game of a long and successful career. However, I've never heard anything like I heard come out of Tony Romo's mouth this past week. Articles have praised Romo's wonder speech and said what a great team player he is for supporting Dak Prescott. I think I'm headed a different direction on this. I think Romo is crazy and this whole deal was a little awkward. Let's review a few quotes from his speech.

"It’s a dark place. Probably the darkest it’s ever been." - Really? Isn't that being a little dramatic Tony? The bills are paid and the lights are on. Nobody has died.

"I can remember when I was a kid just starting out wanting to be part of something bigger than myself." - Stop!!! Again, I'm going to call bull on this one. Let's all think back to when we were kids. Did you ever say to your teammates and friends, "Hey, you can have all the glory and the girlfriends. I'm just here to support my team and focus on the big picture." Yes, I know, Tim Tebow was probably like that, and Richie Cunningham from Happy Days too. However, if you are the parent of teenage boys, you know that the quest for self-actualization is off the table at that age.

Here's another one. - "I feel like we all have two battles or two enemies going on. One with the man across from you. The second is with the man inside of you." - Personally I had a third battle going on. I was trying to not throw up in my mouth before his speech ended. If you have that many battles running through your head at any given moment, it's no wonder why you only won two playoff games in your career!

This is football. People get hurt all the time. People get replaced all the time. You never have a guy reading a poem or giving a speech when he's in traction at the hosptial or entering the concussion protocol. Can you imagine what football would be like if this happened all the time? Let's say Dak got injured and had to give a speech. Then after he gets healthy, Tony comes back and says, "Remember my speech back in November, 2016. Ditto on that one again." SportsCenter would be consumed with these sad speeches each night. No one would ever watch sports. You know why? Because it would be such a "dark, dark place."

Here's what Romo should have said. ...... That's right, nothing at all. That's why teams have coaches. Jason Garrett is the guy who should have given that speech. It should have been one sentence long. "Dak Prescott is our starting QB." It's as simple as that.

I bet you anything that Tony Romo has never seen anything as dark as Week 10 of the PFCC. An average score of -22 points is not what we're shooting for here. Who would have thought that Tennessee would hang 47 on Green Bay? Carolina's fourth quarter meltdown against Kansas City was mind-blowing, New Orleans loss to Denver on the blocked extra point was gut-wrenching. Still, if you're Ben Nelson from Saint Augustine, Florida, you can live with the pain. Ben's -3 point, 6-7 performance was enough to keep him in first place for another week. ..and remember to remind Tony Romo that we normally refer to second place as the first loser. I will say this, it has been a long time since we've seen a Cowboys team playing this well. The Cowboys/Steelers game was one of the best games I've seen in a long time.

A special shoutout to Stu Ostro of Decatur, GA. and Andrew Schmidt from Peachtree City, GA. Both of these gentlemen tallied 9-4 records with scores of 49 points. Those are monster weeks and it's not surprising to see these guys jumped 93 and 68 spots respectively in the overall standings.

Finally, the Carolina Crushers and the South Texas Heat are duking it out for first in group play. The Desert Dawgs and the BoomerBacks are currently in the third and fourth positions, with Prayin' for Rain in 21st place. You might say they've hit a little dry spell.
