Playoffs Don't Matter

Week 11 in college football was a bloodbath. I could barely bring myself to write about it. Instead, let's write about CFCC week 11. Zach Sefcovic of Cleveland ended up the week's winner with a stellar 10-5 record for 72 points. Yep, no bloodbath there either. We think thats one of the lowest dirty-dawg winning scores ever. Dirty-dawg staff statisticians will be working on verifying that, as soon as the office Commodore64 boots. In fact, after looking at Zach's picks, we have determined there is a non-zero chance that he had his confidence picks in reverse order. How else do you explain putting a 1 on Michigan (12 spots below the dirty-dawg consensus), and 13 on West Virginia (12 spots above consensus). Luck or genius ? He's from Cleveland so we can rule out the genius option. Right behind Zach's 10-5 record for the week was Victor Proton's 9-6 record - good for -22 points and 451st place. Wait ! What? How do we get 450 spots in the standings between a 10-5 and 9-6 record ? Turns out Victor hit the jackpot by missing his 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11 confidence picks. That might be a Dirty-Dawg record as well. In the overall standings, we have no change at the top with Sam Lucci, Aidan Binau, and Brandon Dunston all locked into the top 3. And in Group Play, the Swing State Dummies will not change their name or their ranking until the Electoral College votes are counted.

So, this was the first time in over 30 years that the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked teams all went down to defeat in one week. How good were dirty-dawgers at anticipating this disaster ? USC was picked by 21 people, 7 people picked Iowa, and just 4 picked Pittsburgh to win outright. Nobody had all 3 upsets, nor did any correctly pick 2 of the 3. The closest was Chris Morris, who had 4 on Pittsburgh, just 1 on Michigan, and 2 on Washington; somehow keeping a positive point total on that 3 game aggregate. This is noteworthy because Chris finished in dead last this week with -32 points. It was a weird week.

The week 12 CFCC shows the best game of the week to be Thursday night as Louisville prepares to lose to Houston, further complicating the playoff picture. But there are many great games on the week 12 slate this Saturday - including some bad weather games. Washingston State and Colorado are basically in an elimination game for the Pac12 championship race. USC and UCLA renew their rivalry as well. Meanwhile in the Big12, Oklahoma and West Virginia play an elimination game for control of the BIG12, and Oklahoma State and TCU face off in another big game in that conference. Last, at the top of the rankings Alabama will play its biggest rival in Chattanooga this week. Mercy rule is in effect for that game. After this week, there is just one week left to make your move in the CFCC standings. There will be an early game form next week for the long holiday weekend - full of rivalry games that could shake up the College Football Playoff Standings in a big way. After that, the annual Bowl Blowout game form will go up after the conference championship games.
