The Week 10 CFCC Wrap Up:

Some Held Serve; Some Got Served

Well I guess the Committee knew what they were doing when they put Alabama in the Top 4, as Bama thumped LSU and stuffed Leonard Fournette, as the Heisman Hopeful was held to 31 yards, and an average of 1.6 yards per carry. But on the same stage, a new possible Heisman front-runner as Alabama’s Derrick Henry ripped up the LSU defense for 210 yards. So, Alabama held serve at home, Clemson got over the hump with FSU , controlling the game and looking like the real-deal, ready to make a drive to the playoff. Then there were those who Got Served notice that their Title run may be over—TCU, you may take your seat; Florida State, it’s Clemson’s turn. And Anchors Aweigh to Memphis as Navy sent them packing, 45-20. So, for the Top 4, obviously, Clemson, Ohio State, and Alabama stay in—who is the new #4? Notre Dame, Baylor, or Oklahoma State?

How about our picks—well the upper half of my sheet looked pretty good, but then there were the 5 upsets in a row in our games, starting with Arkansas’ OT win over Ole Miss, that included another 2015 unbelievable play—the Arkansas 4th-and-25 Overtime desperation blind sling-back lateral to Alex Collins (“just like we drew it up, huh!), who ran about 35 yards for the first down—the rest is history. Next, Utah State, dropping a game to underdog New Mexico, Navy over Memphis, Utah beat Washington, and Auburn, suddenly finding a spark, upended Texas A&M.

In our standings, Fave Mann, from Garland, TX slides up one spot to take the lead. Fave, not crazy about scoring 18, but that’s better than the average of 9.6 in this topsy-turvy week. Our new #2 is Steven Tensfeldt, from Monroe, NY, who stormed up from #10. Chuck Wolf, from Pittsburgh, who was tied for 10th last week, surged up to #3. For the week, Cody Mize, Buda, TX, scored an amazing 70 points, correctly picking the Oklahoma and Arkansas upsets! Brent Rider, Gresham, OR was right behind Cody at 68, correctly picking the Oklahoma State and Auburn upsets. In Group Play, Hookem Horns has a relatively comfortable 27 point lead (the next 27 points holds the next 7 teams in the standings).

Looking Ahead to Week 11

Next week, Alabama must travel to Mississippi State, where the Bulldogs are crouched, ready for a possibly flat Crimson Tide, Oklahoma tests Baylor’s Top 4 claim, and Houston (the last of the Group of 5 unbeatens) takes on a mad Memphis. Three weeks left in the regular season—things are starting to take shape.
