PFCC Week 15 – NFC and College Hoops

By Dude

We’re now down to two weeks to go in PFCC 2014, and the Playoff and Harbaugh sweepstakes are heating up. The NFC Playoff picture in particular, is a mess. The best part is a scenario whereby the Panthers can actually take the NFC south with 6 wins ahead of a 7 win Saints team (hint, it involves a tie game during the last two weeks of the season). Of course, no team should make the playoffs (and host a first round game) with only 6 wins.

Over in the NFC Norris, the Lions and Packers are headed for a final Sunday Night Showdown in the last week of the season for the division title and a first round bye. Here’s hoping for a blizzard during a night game at Lambeau. The Lions have not won in that stadium in most people’s lifetimes, adding a bit more intrigue to the match-up. In the NFC East, the Cowboys took control in their showdown matchup with the Eagles, leaving Philly on the outside looking in with just two weeks to go.

In the NFC West, Arizona has already clinched a playoff spot, and Seattle sent message boards into meltdown mode with Harbaugh rumors after knocking the 49ers out of the playoffs. To be specific, its Jim Harbaugh to either the Raiders, Jets, or Wolverines, and John Harbaugh to either the Dolphins or Wolverines.

In the AFC, no one really cares since the Patriots have secured a spot in the Super Bowl.

In Dirty-Dawg land, Mr. Brown still has a comfortable lead, despite a slew of 14-1 records for the week. We think Mr. Brown will playing the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Our week 15 winner was Bill herman of Hoover AL, whose 14-1 record was good for 106 points, just 2 points better than Connie Werner, and Stephen Carboni (both of whom also had 14-1 records). In Group Play, You Said Watt has rallied to take the lead in a close competition, just ahead of Soggy Bottom Boys, and last week’s leader, ISIS.

Its also the time of year when I lament my annual swoon into the depths of the standings, -where I’m further out of 1st place (600+ points) than actual points accumulated (about a third of that). That’s right, that means its time to handicap the CBCC College Basketball Confidence Contest !! The ACC isn’t deep this year, but is strong at the top. Virginia, Duke, and Louisville are the dirty-dawg picks to make the Elite Eight this year. The Big Ten is deep but down at the top. Only Wisconsin is good enough for the final Eight. Similarly, in the SEC, Kentucky will be their lone representative. In the Big 12, Kansas; and out west, Arizona and Gonzaga. Our early 61-64 teams in CBCC this year will be Arizona, Kentucky, Louisville, and Virginia – with Louisville winning it all.
