CFCC 2014 Final Wrap

by: Sugar (January 18)

Just think. Most people didn't even think they belonged in the playoff. A couple of my colleagues suggested that perhaps Wisconsin took a dive, just so a Big Ten team could get in the playoff. Turns out, the Badgers didn't take a dive and Ohio State really was as good as their regular season ending victory, as they upset Alabama in the semi-final game and cruised to an easy victory as an underdog versus Oregon in the National Championship game. So, I would say the playoff committee did a fine job picking Ohio State to play, but TCU probably deserved a chance as well. It's just tough to leave out Florida State when they are undefeated and the defending National Champ. Of course, we all know the solution. Expand the playoffs. Eight teams should be enough, right? I'm sure we will find out before too many more years go by.

Of course, there were several dirty-dawgers that weren't on the Alabama bandwagon and that paid huge benefits with the doubling and tripling of the confidence points. One of those players was our 2014 CFCC Champion, Roger Bryan, from St. Louis. Roger had the Buckeyes all the way with big points and finished 3rd for the Bowl Blowout with 220 points. That was enough to rocket him into 1st place for the contest with a final tally of 1012 points on 156 victories. Congrats, Roger. You have a Gold Bone coming and the admiration of dirty-dawgers everywhere, forever. Another Buckeye faithful, Aidan Binau of Billings, MT and part of the now-feared dirty-dawg veteran Binau Family, is the 2014 CFCC runner-up with 957 points and a 154-81 record. Mike Johnson of San Angelo, TX takes home the bronze bone with 938 points and a stellar 157-78 record. Congratulations to all of our Top 3 players for 2014!

Just out of the bones, we find veteran dirty-dawger Jon Zeitler, who missed 3rd place by only 7 points. Jon will be searching for that missed 4 confidence game from earlier in the year that cost him some bone-wear. Mike Zwier finished 5th, followed by David Rowell, Michael Boyer, Keny Kuyper, Jesse Binau (how many Binaus are in this contest, anyway??) and 2009 CFCC Champion (and Ohio State faithful) David Schomaker to round out the Top 10. Best record award, which isn't really an award because this is a confidence contest, goes to David Rowell, who successfully picked 161 games correctly throughout the season. That's something to be proud of, Dave, but you are playing the wrong contest!

Ric Bavin from Northwood, (wait for it), Ohio was the Bowl Blowout champion with 228 points and 16 victories. Jesse Binau was second with 220, followed by 2014 champ Roger Bryan, 2009 champ David Schomaker and Bruce Berman. Not surprisingly, all of these players lived and died with Ohio State and were handsomely rewarded. Congatulations, dawgs!

Group Play was dominated in the end by "The Binau Family" and friends and their group BuckNutz, which as you may suspect is full of Ohio State faithful. They finished with an average player score of 868.11 points. The Border War Still Lives in KC was the group play runner-up with 808.75, followed by The Stupendous Florida Dummies, Shake and Bake and Boomerbacks. Great job to all of our group play members and kudos to BuckNutz for getting it done in 2014.

That will do it for another CFCC contest here at dirty-dawg.com World HQ. As always, there are many people that make dirty-dawg possible throughout the season and you all know who you are. We'll be back in a little over 7 months for the best time of the year..college football!
